Mr. Varghese Mathew, a distinguished figure in the realm of sustainable living and eco-spirituality, serves as the Life Trustee, Patron, and National Coordinator of the Greencross Foundation. Based in Delhi, Mr. Mathew brings a unique blend of visionary leadership, scientific curiosity, and spiritual wisdom to the foundation’s mission of fostering deep ecology and sustainable lifestyles.
A Journey from Science to Spirituality
Born with an insatiable curiosity for science and truth, Mr. Mathew embarked on a journey as a businessman in the international garment design industry. However, a turning point in his life came when he faced severe health challenges due to modern treatments. This pivotal moment led him to explore the body’s innate ability to heal itself—a phenomenon he observed mirrored in nature. Inspired by these insights, he designed a “Green Living Support System,” promoting nature-based living rooted in scientific principles.
Despite his groundbreaking work, Mr. Mathew felt a gap in his understanding of holistic living. This gap was bridged in 2015 when he encountered the concept of “Eco-Spirituality” through Olympuss. Attending the first Ecosophical Fellowship in Munnar, he was profoundly inspired by the seamless integration of science and spirituality presented by Olympuss’ teachings. This transformative experience led him to embrace the Olympuss Doctrine and become a Fellow of the Deep Ecological Fellowship.
Contributions to the Greencross Foundation
Mr. Mathew’s unwavering dedication to the Greencross Foundation has been instrumental in its growth and impact. As the National Coordinator, he organizes and actively participates in online programs and events, as well as camps held at the Eco Village campus. His leadership has significantly contributed to the success of key initiatives, such as the Eco Village project and cultural upliftment programs.
His vision extends beyond the foundation, with his elder son, Roham Mathew, serving as a Permaculture and Sustainability Advisor to the Government of Sweden, and his younger son, Reuben Mathew, running a business focused on sustainability-based consumables and concepts. His wife, Sherly, continues to manage the design aspect of the family’s garment business.

In addition to his professional and familial contributions, Mr. Mathew has undergone initiation in Siddha Sadhana from Guru Maniyettan, deepening his spiritual journey and commitment to holistic living. His ability to inspire and integrate diverse aspects of science, spirituality, and sustainable practices has made him a cornerstone of the Greencross Foundation’s vision for a harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.
